In case you need to support Microsoft products such as MS Access, ASP, or VBScript, then Windows hosting would be the right option. However, it is important to know that just because you use Windows at home does not imply you need Windows hosting. Still the communication is possible with a UNIX server.
Also, Linux being free, is much more common with web hosts along with its superior Linux hosting is usually cheaper than Windows and yet an excellent product.

Name-Based Hosting does not affect the appearance or performance of the domains hosted, and is a great way to economize on IP usage.
It may be noted, however, that few applications & services need a dedicated IP. These include elements like SSL Certificates, and Anonymous FTP. If required more IPs as well as needed server add-ons can be purchased by you.
